Services

Our Services

The clinic provides a single location where patients embarking on their breast care journey can access their care team, from specialist surgeons to GP breast physicians and breast care nurses, all without the need to travel further afield to Melbourne.

We will work to ensure that all the appropriate investigations and referrals are initiated early to streamline your care as much as we are able in either the public or private health sector.

We aim to provide easy access to our services in what can be an overwhelming time for patients and their families.

Patient Journey

Bendigo Breast Clinic is a specialist care clinic where people can feel confident that they will see a professional who will listen to them and treat them with respect. The professionals who work here have come together based on their shared commitment to up to date, evidence-based care, and their ability to mould that care to the patient in front of them.

You may have been referred to our services from your GP or have made your own self-referral. If you have made a self-referral to one of our GP Breast Physicians, you will be required to nominate your own GP for ongoing care. Seeing our GP Breast Physicians is for the sole purpose of breast health purposes and your regular GP will continue to provide you with all your other health care needs and will be notified of your visit to see us.

Self Referral

Self-referral to the GP Breast Physicians (not to surgeons) at Bendigo Breast Clinic can be made by directly calling the clinic or using the self-referral button below. You will need to provide details that will assist us to prepare for your visit to see the GP Breast Physicians. You will receive confirmation of receipt of your referral from our team and be notified of when an appointment is available.

Practitioner Referral

To access Breast Specialist Surgeons directly, a specifically named referral from a GP or other specialist is needed.

We accept referrals via email, fax, e-referrals, paper/hard copy by mail or in person.

About

About Us

The surgeons, GP physicians and breast care nurses have joined together at Bendigo Breast Clinic based on a common philosophy to provide a compassionate, knowledgeable, and specialised care team to support you on your journey.

The breast care nurses, courtesy of the McGrath Foundation and St John of God Bendigo Hospital, are highly qualified and add significant value with the coordination of your care, and provide you and your family with support, guidance, and advice during your experience with breast cancer.

Specialist Breast Surgeons

The Specialist Breast Surgeons at our clinic are just that, specialised in the field of breast health, breast surgery and patient care. Our surgeons are highly skilled, knowledgeable, and experienced in their field, providing current practice that is evidence based and peer supported.

Our specialists are full members of The Breast Surgeons of Australia and New Zealand, and AHPRA registered.

Our surgeons are fully trained in breast surgery techniques for cancer that combine plastic surgery techniques such as breast reduction, local flaps, fat transfer and implant reconstruction to optimise the cosmetic results of your cancer surgery. We work with plastic surgeons here, in Melbourne and Adelaide where additional resources are required. The use of breast surgery techniques together with plastic surgery techniques is often referred to as “Oncoplastic Surgery”.

Dr Karishma Kaur

MBBS, FRACGP

GP Breast Physician

Karishma is already an expert in women’s health as a GP.  Now she is adding breast care to her skill set to enable women to access breast care promptly when they find a problem in the breast.  You will need to have a nominated GP to see Karishma but you will need a self-referral.  Your long-term care will stay with your GP.  If you need a surgeon in the public or private sector Karishma can make that referral but will always keep your own doctor in the loop.

Breast Care Nurses

Breast Care Nurses work alongside our team to provide vital support to patients and their families. Our Breast Care Nurses are provided by The McGrath Foundation, and are registered nurses specially trained to manage the care of people with breast cancer throughout the course of their treatment. They are a principal liaison between the individual and the specialists who coordinate their treatment – whether it be early or metastatic breast cancer.

McGrath Breast Care Nurses also play an important advocacy role as well as helping to clarify technical or complicated information that may not be easily understood.

Most importantly, McGrath Breast Care Nurses offer vital emotional support for people with breast cancer and their families, during what can be a very difficult time.
